Chinese badminton icon Lin Dan and Malaysian star Lee Chong Wei, two of the most dominant men’s singles players in the history of the sport, are set to be inducted into the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place on Friday, May 26, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia.

Lin and Lee began their international careers in the early 2000s and went on to leave an indelible mark on the sport before their respective retirements in 2020 and 2019. Their combined achievements include five Olympic finals appearances and participation in 10 BWF World Championships finals.

Lee Chong Wei secured an impressive 47 BWF Superseries/World Tour titles and spent an astonishing 349 weeks as world No.1. Lin Dan’s major championships record is equally remarkable, with two Olympic and five World Championships titles to his name.

Reflecting on their inductions, Lee expressed his gratitude and excitement, saying, “When I was a small kid in Penang, I was trying all means to be able to play in a proper badminton hall, and now we’re talking about the Hall of Fame.” He added that being inducted alongside Lin Dan makes the honor even more special.

BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer praised the pair, stating, “Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan were among the foremost ambassadors of badminton over a major part of the last two decades. With their outstanding performances, they drew whole generations of fans to the sport. They both richly deserve to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

The induction ceremony will serve as a celebration of the storied careers of these two badminton legends, who captivated fans around the world with their passion, skill, and sportsmanship.
